Adult Ballet
We promote to inspire and educate our students through the joy of dance! Our Adult classes are a physical workout resulting in body toning and core strengthening. Students develop grace, lyricism, coordination, strength and focus. These benefits – and the simple joy of dance – remain a positive influence forever. We teach in the Vaganova technique and follow it’s syllabus in class.
The Vaganova Method
Generally considered the universal standard of excellence in ballet. In the early 1900’s Russian ballerina Agrippina Vaganova developed a ballet teaching method built on the traditions of the Russian school. The technique results in more lyrical upper body movements and increased strength, precision and agility. Madame Vaganova taught the method in ST. Petersburg, Russia, at the Kirov Theatre school, which now bears her name. The style is sometimes referred to as Kirov training. The Vagaonova method is practised throughout the world in leading ballet institutions.
Monica Hoekstra trained in Toronto, Canada in the Vaganova style under the direction of Bella Kivarsky and Nadia Vesslova. Prior to moving to Charlotte, Monica performed and was on faculty with the Rotaru International Ballet School in Atlanta, Georgia under the direction of Pavel Rotaru. Monica’s passion was teaching adults and she is pleased to offer open class at ABsolute Pilates.
