Our Story

Established in the SouthPark neighborhood of Charlotte, our studio has been a trusted destination for movement and education for over 25 years. As one of the few studios in the Charlotte area dedicated to the real Pilates method, our work is grounded in the lineage of Romana Kryzanowska and carried forward through the teachings of Janice Dulak. This foundation ensures a standard of precision, consistency, and effectiveness that remains unchanged by trends

We work with clients of all backgrounds and experience levels, with a clear focus: to help people move with greater strength, control, and confidence. Our approach emphasizes long-term results—reducing pain, improving function, and supporting overall quality of life and longevity. Every session is guided with intention, ensuring that each individual receives the attention necessary to progress safely and efficiently.

In addition to client sessions, the studio serves as a Teacher Training center through Dark Horse Pilates. Through the Dark Horse Pilates teacher training program, our goal is to develop instructors who are committed to mastering the method and upholding its standards. This program reflects the same principles that define our studio: depth of knowledge, disciplined practice, and a commitment to teaching Pilates as it was intended.

We do not follow trends. We teach what works.

She eventually discovered Pilates as a way to manage pain and prevent injuries, and shortly after began training to become an instructor. What started as a personal healing journey quickly became a passion. After completing her comprehensive classical certification, she continued her education through Dark Horse Pilates and Monica to deepen her understanding of the work and better serve her clients. She is passionate about helping clients feel better, build strength from the inside out, improve posture and flexibility, move with confidence, and of course, learn how to survive the Hundred.

Dru
Certified Pilates Teacher, DHP Designated Teacher

Dru Parker

After spending 12 years as an educator in a middle school classroom, Dru decided to take her teaching career in a new direction.  She became a teacher within the fitness industry as a mat-based Pilates and Certified Core Barre® Instructor, studying at Absolute Pilates under Monica Hoekstra. When Dru began practicing Pilates, she soon discovered the brilliance and depth of Joseph Pilates’ system of “Contrology,” inspiring her to pursue a deeper study in the Classical Pilates method. Committed to staying true to the original work, Dru studied, practiced, completed a rigorous apprenticeship and was certified with Romana’s Pilates International in 2019. Today, she continues her ongoing study and  training with Janice Dulak of Dark Horse Pilates.  She is a Dark Horse Affiliate and Designated Teacher and owner of an Affiliate Studio in Gaston County. With over 10 years experience in the industry, Dru has worked with a wide variety of clients and special populations, including older adults, pre/post natal women, clients recovering from injury, and those experiencing chronic back pain and mobility challenges. With a teacher’s heart and a deep respect for individual needs, she thoughtfully adapts each session to support safe movement that creates strength and balance to improve overall wellbeing. Her goal is to help every client feel empowered, supported, and successful in their Pilates journey.

In 2018 wanting a deeper knowledge of the discipline, Rachel began the certification process with Peak Pilates that included over 500 hours of practice, education and apprentice teaching. After her Level 1 certification she began teaching at LifeTime Fitness. Rachel completed her teacher training and became a Comprehensive Classical Certified Peak Pilates Teacher in 2021. She joined Absolute Pilates as a teacher in 2022. Additionally, in September of 2025 Rachel successfully completed her Crossover Training and final evaluation to become a fully Certified Dark Horse Pilates teacher. louie
Absolute Pilates Studio Dog / Dark Horse Pilates Ambassador

Louie

As our official Studio Dog and proud Dark Horse Pilates Ambassador, Louie takes his responsibilities very seriously. His daily duties include greeting every client with a wag, supervising classes from the best seat in the studio, and conducting thorough quality-control inspections of everyone’s form.

He firmly believes every session is improved by a friendly hello, a few well-timed tail wags, and the occasional request for ear scratches. Between inspections, you’ll usually find him relaxing on his favorite mat—because comfort is an important part of recovery.

Louie doesn’t teach Pilates, but he’s an expert in making people smile. If you see him during your visit, be sure to say hello. It’s part of the studio experience.

Questions

Frequently Asked

What should I wear to my first session?+

Wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing that allows your teacher to accurately assess your posture and movement. Grip socks are required for all sessions and are available for purchase at the studio. Please avoid loose or baggy clothing, dangling jewelry, and hairstyles that interfere with lying comfortably on the equipment. Long hair should be securely tied back.

Do I need prior Pilates experience?+

Not at all. Our private sessions are tailored to your individual level, whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced practitioner. We will meet you exactly where you are.

What is the difference between private and shared sessions?+

Private sessions are one-on-one with your instructor, offering fully personalized attention. Shared sessions have 2–4 students of similar skill levels, allowing for a more social experience while still receiving tailored guidance.

What equipment do you use?+

We exclusively use apparatus handcrafted by Gratz Pilates, the gold standard in classical Pilates equipment. This includes Reformers, Tower Units, Wunda Chairs, Barrels, Mats, Magic Circles, and Hand Weights.

How do I book a session?+

To begin your Pilates journey, please contact our studio directly and connect with Allison, our Operations Manager. Allison will personally guide you through the enrollment process, discuss our introductory package, and help you select the days and times that best fit your schedule. We recommend beginning with private sessions to establish a strong foundation in the Classical Pilates method and to allow for a highly personalized approach to your individual goals and needs. For those interested in transitioning to shared sessions, starting with privates allows us to become familiar with your abilities, goals, and pace of progression. This makes it easier to thoughtfully pair you with another client of a similar level, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable shared-session experience.

What is your cancellation policy?+

Appointments canceled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours notice, as well as missed appointments and no-shows, will be charged the full session fee. We kindly ask that any schedule changes be made at least 24 hours in advance.

Do you offer an introductory package for new clients?+

Yes. We require new clients to begin with a minimum of three private introductory sessions before joining shared sessions. This allows your teacher to assess your movement, introduce you to the equipment safely, and build a foundation tailored to your body and goals.

What is your package and payment policy?+

Session packages are non-refundable and expire three months from the date of your first session. We accept card payments through our online scheduler. Exceptions to expiration may be considered for medical circumstances; please contact the studio directly to discuss.

What are your studio etiquette guidelines?+

We ask that you wear form-fitting clothing and grip socks (available for purchase at the studio). Please arrive a few minutes early, avoid lotions or oils that may make the equipment slippery, refrain from wearing strong perfumes or colognes, remove jewelry that may catch on the apparatus, and keep phones on silent during sessions. Our studio is a focused, boutique environment—we appreciate your consideration.
